About Jennie

Mrs Jennie Frost - BMus(Hons), PGCE

Jennie was brought up in Staffordshire. She began learning piano at the age of 6, and violin shortly after. Staffordshire Music Service provided lots of opportunities for ensemble playing whilst Jennie was at school. From the age of 14, she worked regularly as an accompanist for local choirs and also was organist at her local church.

On leaving school, University was next on the agenda - Bangor, in North Wales. Here she further developed her love of music. Many opportunities to perform both on the piano and the violin were taken up, including University Orchestras, lunchtime concerts, musical theatre and choral works.

A year at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester) studying piano accompaniment followed. It was whilst in Manchester that Jennie started the private teaching which continues to today. A Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and a year teaching in a Secondary School led to a long period working for Northamptonshire Music Service.

Jennie worked for Northamptonshire for 14 years as a strings teacher. This involved going into schools and teaching violin, viola, cello and music theory. Weekend Music Centres were part of her job and these, combined with running residential courses for children, gave Jennie the chance to direct childrens' small ensembles and orchestras. Alongside these commitments, private teaching work continued to be undertaken on piano, strings and theory. The long stay in Northamptonshire provided Jennie with the opportunity of performing orchestral and ensemble work on both piano and violin along with 'pit orchestra' work in theatres. A key area of performance at this time was the role of accompanist for choirs, festivals and music examinations.

For family reasons, a move to the West Midlands and a post with Birmingham Music Service followed. The pattern of teaching in schools and private teaching at home continued. Jennie came to Tanygroes in 2012 and, after house renovations and converting the garage to a specialist music studio, set up Jennie Frost Music where she teaches both adults and children.

In addition to her teaching, Jennie, on an occasional basis, is an organist at local churches for services, weddings and funerals. She has undertaken three years of Welsh examination classes, with Distinction passes each year, and is continuing her Welsh studies in the community.
